We are thrilled to welcome you to the 2025–2026 school year at Heritage Flex Academy! We can't wait to see you at StartUp on Wednesday, August 13—our official launch day. Please remember that StartUp is mandatory for all HFA parents and guardians. During this important orientation, you’ll check out textbooks, receive an overview of your role as a home educator, and gain clarity around the shared responsibilities between teachers and families.
We’re also excited to offer free, donated school uniforms at StartUp. If you have clean, gently used uniforms to contribute, we welcome your donations at the exchange table in the lunch area.
As we begin the new year, we encourage all families to commit to reading the Heritage Flex Notes each week. This newsletter is our primary way to keep you informed about important updates and events happening on and around campus. Notes are emailed every Sunday morning and are always available on our school website.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. We’re honored to teach both the hearts and minds of our students—and we’re ready to make this year our best yet.
Sincerely,
Sandi Knapp
Principal
NEW & TIME SENSITIVE INFORMATION
1. Heritage Flex Academy Hybrid Learning and Home Learning programs are considered an Independent Study program for the purpose of attendance and state reporting. Because of this, each year parents, students, and teachers must sign an Independent Study Master Agreement that explains the program and all accountability measures that are part of the program. Please see the email from your academic advisor to sign your Independent Study Master Agreement no later than Monday, August 11, 2025. Please note that this year, they are grade level specific.
2. Along with the Independent Study Master Agreement, all Heritage Flex Academy families need to sign the Parent-Student-School Education Compact.
This contract is an agreement between the parties that all will follow through on the responsibilities outlined. Please read and sign the Parent-Student-School Compact no later than Monday, August 11, 2025.
3. The 25-26 HFA Parent-Student Handbook can be found HERE. Please read through the handbook carefully with your student. We will also be reviewing sections of the handbook during the first week of school. After you have reviewed the 25-26 HFA Student Handbook, please sign this HFA Student/Parent Handbook AcknowledgmentForm no later than Monday, August 11, 2025.
4. FRONT OFFICE HOURS: Monday-Friday, 7:30AM-3:30PM
5. STARTUP 2025 IS WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 13, 2025. StartUp is the day parents and guardians attend a presentation from their child’s teacher on the Hybrid Program. Here are some helpful suggestions as you plan your day:
Parents are strongly advised to arrange child care for younger children.
At least one parent/guardian is required to attend.
Grade level overviews will be easier to attend without your child.
Student supervision/child care will not be provided.
Please bring a large tote bag or rolling crate to carry student textbooks.
6. FLEX HOME LEARNING PARENTS AND STUDENTS will attend an overview with their individual Academic Advisor. These appointments will be scheduled by the Academic Advisor who is responsible for your student.
7. MANDATORY CATALINA PLANNING MEETING (8th Grade STUDENTS AND CHAPERONES ATTENDING CATALINA ONLY)
We will be having a mandatory meeting for the Eighth Grade Field Trip on Thursday, August 21, 2025, from 6:00–7:30 p.m. at Heritage Elementary in the MPR. All families who paid, or requested assistance, have a spot for their eighth grader. If you are unsure, for whatever reason, please contact the front office. This is going to be a great experience, and we are very excited for your student to participate.
Here are the items we will be covering at the meeting:
Expectations
Departure and Arrival
Where we will be staying
What to bring and how to pack
Activities
Who to contact in case of emergency
If your student takes daily medication or requires an inhaler or EpiPen while on the field trip, your child's physician must complete and sign the Medication Authorization Form also linked HERE. Medications for Catalina must be turned in no later than Friday, August 29.
8. CLASSROOM INTERRUPTIONS AND : HFA sets a high priority on making the most of instructional time. Therefore, the front desk will not interrupt class time to report delivery of forgotten items. Please make plans to drop off forgotten items in the front office and your student can pick them up during break and lunch.
